Hi, I'm Tikara Young

I am a literacy leader and teacher coach with 20 years of experience in public education. I've served as a special education teacher, intervention coordinator, administrator, and literacy specialist. Throughout my career, I have been committed to ensuring that striving readers in upper elementary grades receive accelerated interventions, with a focus on building foundational reading skills. My work has benefited and closed achievement gaps for many of the students I have served, especially in our underserved communities. Another contribution to the education community has been my service as a literacy coach and a mentor to preservice teachers.  I truly enjoy seeing teachers develop capacity and self-efficacy in their craft.  To better serve the education community, I am currently attending Sam Houston State University to pursue a Doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on literacy. Additionally, I currently coach pre-service teachers as an intern supervisor at Sam Houston State University. Building foundational reading skills for students using the science of reading and enriching teacher development are long-standing passions that I want to share with the education community.
